Using Affirmations to Create your Dream Life

An affirmation is simply anything that you say to yourself; so it can be positive, negative or anything in between and these all have a direct impact on your life. The Law of Attraction states that Like Attracts Like and therefore the thoughts you're putting out there are the types of situations that you're attracting back to yourself, so the trick with Affirmations is to train yourself to use positive ones as much as possible.

Take a quick moment to think about an area of your life that's not working very well for you right now. What are some of the things that come to mind about this area? Were your thoughts positive or negative? Unless you're already taking some steps to improve this area, it's likely that your thoughts were fairly negative. As you continue to have negative thoughts, you continue to draw more negative experiences to you which only confirms your initial negative thought and you become stuck in that cycle.

Changing the way you think can have huge benefits in your life. We have thousands of thoughts each day and most of these are habitual, so it is highly likely that you're habitually having negative thoughts about certain areas of your life, and you're probably not even realising that this is happening.

Creating positive affirmations is an amazing way to begin changing that negative thought cycle. Pick an area of your life you want to start changing. It may be health, finances, relationships etc and create a couple of positive sentences about this area that you can begin repeating to yourself. Make sure that your sentence is positive and in the present tense. Saying 'I will save money' leaves it out in the future but saying 'I have saved $5,000' or 'I am in the process of saving $5,000' brings it to the present.

Now that you have your affirmations, make it a habit to read them every morning when you wake and every evening before you go to sleep. Write them out on cards and have them by your bed so you remember to do this every day or write them out on sticky notes and put them in your car, on your desk at work, on the fridge and wherever else you'll see them frequently throughout the day. Each time you see them, take a moment to not only read them, but feel as if you had actually already achieved this outcome.

Start also trying to monitor your thoughts about this area. When you notice an old thought popping into your mind, simply stop yourself and replace it with your new affirmation. Don't be alarmed if at first you start noticing lots of negative thoughts. You're not having any extra ones - it's just that you're beginning to recognise the habitual thoughts that previously went unnoticed. Each time you stop a negative thought and replace it with your new affirmation, you're helping to change old thought patterns, create new neural pathways, and create new habits. With this process in place, you're well on your way to creating a new outcome for this area of your life.

Creating a Vision Board is another great way to reinforce this process by creating a visual representation of your goals and affirmations. Remember to also keep your Vision Board in a prominent place where you can see it on a regular basis to let your sub-conscious mind draw in all the aspects of what it is you want to attract into your life.

Good luck with your affirmations and remember to focus on what it is you Do want in your life and let go of what no longer serves you.
